A new day of collaboration between IHECS and Arteveldehogeschool students

09.12.2022
On 1st December, B3 students from the Journalism Department were delighted to welcome Dutch-speaking Journalism students from the Arteveldehogeschool for a day of media and linguistic workshops at IHECS.

After a first collaboration project in Brussels in 2019, a year-long hiatus due to Covid and the hosting of IHECS students by the AHS in Ghent in 2021, IHECS again welcomed around fifteen students from the Arteveldehogeschool in 2022. So, they were able to collaborate with their peers from IHECS for a day as part of a media workshop led by Amandine Degand, academic manager of the Journalism Department.

Our guests were invited to breakfast at the IHECS Lab. Amandine Degand then gave some technical instructions before sending the groups each comprising two French-speaking students and two Dutch-speaking students to report in the capital. This year, the students created mini reports in Instagram stories format on various aspects relating to language, such as idiomatic expressions, interlinguistic realities, testimonies and interviews. After editing their content, each team presented their bilingual media product to the whole group who, assisted by their teachers, gave feedback on the productions.

This third edition of the project, organised by Nora De Marneffe, Academic Attaché of the Journalism Department, Georg Brandt, professor of Germanic languages at IHECS and Julie Lemaire, professor of French at the Arteveldehogeschool, aims to create interaction between French-speaking and Dutch-speaking students and represents an attempt to break down this language barrier occasionally confronted by journalists.
