Doing an internship abroad

Europe

The "Internship" grants of the Erasmus+ programme provide financial support to students who complete an internship at a company or organisation in another participating country to obtain fully recognised credits as part of their course at IHECS.

The "Internship" Erasmus programme has the following objectives:

  • to help students adapt to the demands of the European labour market;
  • to enable students to acquire specific skills in preparation for their integration into professional life;
  • to improve the understanding of the host country’s economic and social culture through specific work experience;
  • to enable students to acquire new academic, paedagogical, linguistic and cultural experiences in other European countries and in the field of their university studies;
  • to contribute to the enrichment of society in general by enabing a group of qualified young people with open minds and international experience to be better prepared for their future professional life;
  • to promote cooperation between institutions that host exchange students;
  • to contribute to the costs related to mobility and allow students to spend a period of study abroad that they could not have achieved without the financial support of Erasmus+.

The student may work at any company or organisation engaged in an economic activity in the public or private sector, regardless of size, legal status or sector of economic activity, including the social economy, provided that his or her internship fit sinto the particular context of his or her training and specialisation. In principle, the host organisation must offer a linguistic and cultural environment that is different from that of the student’s country of origin.

All information on internships abroad is available here.

All our Erasmus projects are co-funded by the European Union.

Belgica and Outside Europe

Grants and aid for internships in the Flemish Region and outside Europe are also available, thanks to Belgica and FAME funding.

In addition, ARES (Académie de Recherche et d’Enseignement Supérieur) offers "travel grants" for students who do an internship (or work upon graduation) on a development-related theme in a developing country.

All information relating to these grants (ARES and AUF) will be available on Learn.
