IHECS sells its buildings to the ULB and prepares for its future at Média Park
IHECS is taking a decisive step in its development. On 18 December 2025, the institution formalised the sale of its buildings in Brussels city centre to the Université libre de Bruxelles. This is a landmark transaction for IHECS, ULB and the higher education landscape in Brussels.
Located in the centre of the capital since 1990, IHECS has seen continuous growth in its student population. At the time, it had 474 students, whereas today it has nearly 3,000, spread across several sites that have reached their capacity limits. In response to this development, a new chapter will begin in September 2026 with the consolidation of the entire IHECS community at the Reyers site in Schaerbeek.
The future building, with a surface area of 19,000 m², has been designed to meet the current and future needs of communication training. Located within the Media Park, it will offer an environment conducive to educational innovation and strengthen links with media and communication professionals. The objective is clear: to offer students a learning environment in tune with the realities and needs of the profession.
"Leaving the city centre is a bit of a wrench, but moving to Media Park, an ecosystem entirely dedicated to media and communication, in a building designed with the future of our teaching in mind, is a unique opportunity for our students and eagerly awaited by our academic community. It was also important to us that this transition be carried out in a manner consistent with the educational mission of the premises: the fact that they are being taken over by a university, a long-standing partner, ensures a natural continuity," says Véronique Salvi, General Administrator of IHECS.
For ULB, this acquisition marks a strong return to the heart of Brussels, between the Grand-Place and the Gare du Midi railway station. This new location complements its existing campuses and is part of a clear desire to strengthen its urban roots, close to cultural institutions, creative spaces and civic actors in the city centre.
For IHECS, it marks the beginning of a new dynamic in the service of education, creativity and the commitment of its students.
