Hakima Darhmouch takes over as head of the Press and Information section
For eight years, Nordine Nabili chaired the IHECS Press and Information section with rigour, commitment and a deep attachment to training. His contribution has been fundamental: by maintaining close ties between the institution and the professional world, he has developed an approach
to journalism that is demanding, critical and focused on social realities. IHECS expresses its gratitude to him for this work.
The IHECS management wanted to find someone who could inspire students, embody a strong vision of journalism and keep pace with developments in the profession, whether technological, social or international. This profile matched the results of the strategic review conducted with the PI section.
On this basis, the management decided to approach Hakima Darhmouch, whose profile was an obvious fit for the role.
With more than twenty years of experience in the media, she has worked as a journalist, television news presenter, deputy editor-in-chief at RTL, and head of the Culture department at RTBF, before joining the Akkanto consultancy as a reputation management consultant. She currently sits on several boards of directors involved in the fields of culture, governance and knowledge transfer.
This hybrid career path, at the crossroads of fieldwork, strategy and social engagement, is perfectly in line with the ambitions of the Press and Information section. Her arrival is also a strong signal in a media landscape that is still largely male-dominated. Having a woman at the head of a section that trains the journalists of tomorrow offers a role model, inspiration and a possible path to follow.
When asked why she accepted the position, she explained that she was touched by the offer:
"I quickly thought back to the student I was more than 25 years ago. At the time, the internet was in its infancy and social media did not exist. Professionals reached out to me with a helping hand. Their kind but demanding approach was
decisive for me. Today, I feel the desire to pass on what I have learned."
Another, more personal motivation also guided her: "My father often told me, 'Never forget to pass on what you have been given.' Those words still resonate with me. I see this mission as a natural extension of my career, but also as a tribute."
Faced with the upheavals in the profession – instantaneity, misinformation, the rise of artificial intelligence, the crisis of confidence – Hakima wants to support students in developing their skills, but also their critical thinking, their sense of ethics and their
curiosity.
That said, Hakima does not come with a fixed programme. She wants to start by listening, meeting the teams and understanding the dynamics already in place. Then she wants to get the energy, ideas and projects flowing. Continuing the work carried out in recent years,
and with a strong desire to make the Press and Information section a place of high standards, openness and meaning.
IHECS is delighted with this appointment and the arrival of a personality who strongly embodies the values of the programme: high standards, openness, professional grounding and a desire to develop journalism in line with the challenges of our time.
