Round trip between Rabat and Brussels
ISIC and IHECS, two journalism and communication schools, two continents... and a long-standing partnership. Once again this year, an exchange allowed students from both schools to compare their visions of journalism.
At the end of April, a dozen of our IHECS Master's 1 students in Press and Information, accompanied by Nordine Nabili and Eric Walravens, were welcomed in Rabat. Working in pairs with aspiring Moroccan journalists, they worked on cultural, social and sporting topics, particularly around the African Cup of Nations football tournament that the Moroccan capital is preparing to host. They also grappled with some difficult realities, such as the place of sub-Saharan migrants and the social pressures on women around divorce.
The "return match" was held at IHECS in early May. The Moroccan students had the opportunity to visit RTBF, with a mandatory detour to our new facilities in Reyers, as well as the European Parliament, before taking on "Belgian-style" journalism themselves.
Although they couldn't avoid a few clichés, such as chips and comic strips, some pairs didn't hesitate to tackle hot topics, such as a report on the rampage of extremist supporters in the municipality of Molenbeek.
All of the reports are available on the Mammouth website.
